Terms and Conditions

1. About Medicar

Medicar is the informal name of Mount Adams Medicar, a registered Ohio corporation (“Mount Adams Medicar,” “we,” or “us”). Medicar is a volunteer-based platform that connects people who need rides, primarily to medical appointments and the airport in the Cincinnati area, with volunteer drivers. By creating an account you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not create an account.

2. Volunteer Service, Not a Transportation Company

Medicar only provides a way for riders and volunteers to find each other. We do not employ drivers, own vehicles, or provide transportation. Volunteers are independent individuals who give rides voluntarily and are not paid. We do not guarantee that any ride request will be accepted, that a driver will arrive, or that a ride will be on time.

Volunteer approval by an administrator, including any background check, is not a guarantee of a driver's skill, conduct, vehicle condition, or insurance coverage.

3. Not for Emergencies

Medicar is not an emergency or ambulance service. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911. Rides are for non-emergency travel only.

4. Your Responsibilities

  • You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.
  • Provide accurate information when registering and requesting rides.
  • Keep your password confidential and tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
  • Treat riders and volunteers with respect. We may suspend or remove accounts for unsafe, abusive, or fraudulent behavior.
  • Volunteers must hold a valid driver's license, keep their vehicle safe and legally insured, and follow all traffic laws. Volunteers who provide an emergency contact should have that person's permission to share their name and phone number with us.
  • Riders must wear seat belts and follow reasonable instructions from the driver.

5. Privacy and Your Data

Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how it is shared between riders and volunteers and with our service providers, how long we keep it, and how to request its deletion. By creating an account you agree to the practices it describes.

Ride details such as medical destinations can be sensitive, and ride notes are sent by text message to the volunteers notified about your ride. Please share only what is needed to arrange your ride. Medicar is not a healthcare provider, and you should not include diagnoses or detailed medical information in ride notes.

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, but no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data. You use the service, and share information through it, at your own risk.

6. Text Messages

By creating an account you consent to receive ride-related text messages from Mount Adams Medicar at the phone number you provide. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help, though opting out may prevent you from using core features of the service. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Text messages are not encrypted, so do not use them to share sensitive information.

7. Assumption of Risk

Traveling in a private vehicle carries inherent risks, including accidents, injury, delays, and property damage. By using Medicar, you acknowledge these risks and voluntarily accept them, whether you are a rider or a volunteer.

8. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mount Adams Medicar, its organizers, administrators, and operators are not liable for any injury, death, loss, damage, delay, missed appointment or flight, or other harm arising from rides arranged through the platform, from the conduct of any rider or volunteer, or from any unauthorized access to or loss of data. Map locations, address suggestions, and distances come from third-party services, may be inaccurate, and are estimates only (distances are straight-line, not driving directions).

Where liability cannot be fully excluded, it is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. You agree to release and hold harmless Mount Adams Medicar and its organizers and operators from claims arising out of your use of the service, except where caused by their gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the auto insurance required by Ohio and Kentucky law. Mount Adams Medicar does not provide insurance coverage for rides.

9. Changes and Termination

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated Terms. We may suspend or terminate any account at our discretion, including for violations of these Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

11. Contact Us

Questions about these Terms, or requests to close your account, can be sent to [email protected].
